Overview
The Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and assisting in the implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety programs for multiple facilities and departments. This on-site role is based at our North American Headquarters in Apple Valley, MN.
Responsibilities- Work in conjunction with others in the EHS function to drive the priority of safety at GF BFS.
- Identify and execute tasks, actions and events to monitor, report, facilitate and manage key elements of GF BFS’s required (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, MPCA, Workers Comp) and proactive (e.g., Safety Committee, internal audits, incident tracking, corrective actions, CI review/response) programs to support health and safety of employees.
- Support ongoing ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certification and contribute to sustainability and environmental protection efforts.
- Delegate and prioritize individual or team actions to enable daily activities aligned with the functional and business strategy.
- Model GF BFS values and behaviors; engage diverse audiences through collaboration and influence.
- Provide input on individual performance objectives aligned with functional and business strategy, in collaboration with EHS Manager.
- With EHS Manager and supported by EHS Specialists, implement, develop and administer applicable EHS programs (ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 as applicable).
- Lead or assist in implementation of EHS projects.
- Identify and correct potential EHS hazards via job hazard analysis/risk assessments, facility and equipment inspections, and health hazard evaluation through Industrial Hygiene studies.
- Develop and deliver environmental, health and safety training to employees and contractors/vendors, as applicable.
- Coordinate investigation of incidents/accidents and corrective actions with timely follow up.
- Lead internal Safety Committee and Emergency Response Teams; represent EHS at daily Tier 3 meetings; serve as backup for Workers’ Compensation claims as applicable.
- Maintain and renew environmental and safety permits for assigned programs.
- Provide subject matter expertise on environmental, industrial hygiene, safety regulations and organizational reporting.
- Review process designs and management of change to ensure compliance with safety engineering standards and ergonomics.
- Seek opportunities to contribute to business success through proactive involvement in team initiatives.
- Required:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. - Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of Federal and State health and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, MPCA, NFPA and other regulatory or advisory organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and to lead without direct authority.
- Excellent teamwork and communication, including presentation skills.
- Experience and/or knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of LEAN tools and Six Sigma problem solving methods is a plus.
- Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CHMM or similar.

The expected compensation range is $88,298-$132,447/year; base salary varies by knowledge, training, skills, location, and experience. Internal equity considerations apply.
