General Summary of Duties

The Senior Center Assistant provides administrative, customer service, and program support for the Senior Center. This position assists with daily operations, serves as a welcoming point of contact for participants and visitors, supports enrichment and educational programming, and helps maintain an organized, safe, and positive environment for older adults.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Greets participants, visitors, volunteers, and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answers phones, responds to inquiries, and provides information regarding programs, events, activities, and services.
  • Assists with registration, scheduling, reservations, and participant records.
  • Collects fees, processes payments, and maintains accurate records and receipts.
  • Conducts tours of the Senior Center to prospective members and visitors.
  • Assists with coordinating and setting up programs, classes, meals, special events, and trips.
  • Balances and submits center deposits to Finance department
  • Assists in the preparation of newsletters, flyers, calendars, social media posts, and promotional materials.
  • Assists with the Rec Desk program for member check-in.
  • Assists with volunteer coordination and communication.
  • Monitors activity spaces to ensure participant safety and adherence to facility rules.
  • Helps maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of activity rooms and common areas.
  • Assists with refreshments or event hospitality as needed.
  • Provides clerical and administrative support to Senior Center leadership.
  • Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to interact positively and respectfully with senior citizens, staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize activities, schedules, and multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work occasional flexible hours.
