Health & Safety Engineer Position Summary

The EHS Engineer is responsible for administering and coordinating workplace injury and illness case management programs while supporting the organization's Environmental, Health & Safety objectives. This role serves as the primary point of contact for occupational injury management, workers' compensation claims administration, post-injury follow-up, return-to-work coordination, and incident investigation activities. The successful candidate will partner closely with employees, supervisors, Human Resources, medical providers, insurance carriers, and third‑party administrators to ensure timely case resolution, regulatory compliance, effective injury management, and positive employee outcomes.

This role also supports proactive injury prevention efforts through root cause analysis, corrective action follow‑up, and continuous improvement initiatives.

By ensuring employees receive timely support following workplace injuries, effectively managing workers' compensation claims, reducing injury‑related costs, improving return‑to‑work outcomes, and strengthening the organization's overall safety culture.

What Will You Do?

Workers' Compensation Claims Management

  • Administer and track all workers' compensation claims from initial injury report through claim closure.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, supervisors, Human Resources, insurance carriers, medical providers, and third‑party administrators regarding active claims.
  • Ensure timely reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor claim status, medical treatment plans, work restrictions, and return‑to‑work timelines.
  • Review claim trends and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve claim outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential workers' compensation records and documentation.

Post‑Injury Case Management & Return‑to‑Work Coordination

  • Conduct post‑injury follow‑up with employees to ensure appropriate care and support throughout the recovery process.
  • Coordinate return‑to‑work and transitional duty programs with supervisors, Human Resources, and healthcare providers.
  • Monitor employee work restrictions and ensure compliance with medical recommendations.
  • Facilitate communication among all stakeholders to promote timely and successful return‑to‑work outcomes.
  • Track lost workdays, restricted duty assignments, and other injury management metrics.

Incident Investigation & Risk Reduction

  • Lead incident investigations for occupational injuries, illnesses, and near‑miss events.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and identify corrective and preventive actions.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams to ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Monitor incident trends and develop recommendations to reduce workplace injuries and operational risks.
  • Prepare investigation reports and communicate findings to leadership and relevant stakeholders.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Support compliance with OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain injury and illness records, including OSHA logs and related documentation.
  • Prepare and distribute routine reports related to workers' compensation claims, incident trends, and return‑to‑work performance.
  • Assist during internal audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries as needed.
  • Ensure employee medical and claims information is handled in accordance with privacy and confidentiality requirements.
