Job Description
Provide comprehensive oral hygiene and periodontal care to dental patients of MUSC Health Dental and Oral Care as outlined by the South Carolina Board of Dentistry. Provide instruction in oral hygiene to patients verbally and in written format. Maintain hygiene recall schedule for patients. Accurately document and maintain Electronic Health Record. Ensure instruments are maintained and supplies are stocked. Provide assistance to the dentists and other staff as needed, as well as any other duties directed by the Manager.
Responsibilities- 35%:
Perform comprehensive oral examinations to chart existing restorations and conditions, as well as new findings, oral cancer screening, and full periodontal probing and charting. - 25%:
Use digital technology to expose, mount panoramic, periapical, and bitewing radiographs prescribed by the attending dentist; use intra-oral camera to take photographs. - 20%:
Maintain and sterilize all dental hygiene instruments and equipment; ensure instruments and supplies are stocked in the operatory; maintain infection control. - 15%:
Plan hygiene recall appointments and next restorative appointments for patients by adding the correct planned visit in the EHR at each visit; refer patients for appropriate follow-up care recognizing conditions that warrant additional treatment. - 5%:
As directed by supervisor or Manager, perform other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. 2-4 years of work experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the State of South Carolina.
Certifications- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
