Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on‑going development of instructional strategies that promote student success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
- Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
- Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
- Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field.
- Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of recent relevant occupational manufacturing experience in quality, industrial, or manufacturing operations within the last five years.
- Teaching or training experience is desirable.
- Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum and customized training.
- Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.
- Must meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job‑specific licensing standards.
- Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
- Mobility: ability to move around the classroom or instructional space.
- Standing and sitting: ability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, and to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.
- Lifting and carrying: may need to lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props.
- Speech and hearing: clear speech and the ability to hear students' questions and interactions.
- Fine motor skills: precise hand movements for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers.
- Visual acuity: adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment.
- Health and safety: ensure a safe learning environment, understand and adhere to safety protocols, respond to emergencies, and address physical hazards.
