Job Description Summary

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success. Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to teach General Biology, which introduces general biological concepts and principles with an emphasis on cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, taxonomical relationships, and an environmental perspective.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement, integrating multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies for hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
  • Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful, using data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and learning, and designing improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain an instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.
  • Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the division, department, and team members, staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners and proactively promote the College and its programs.
  • Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and integrating new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A. A Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
  • B. A Master’s degree AND 18 graduate credits in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
  • C. A Master’s degree AND appropriate licensure in the discipline or subfield they teach.
  • When evaluating the credentials of faculty who have obtained a Master of Education degree but not a master’s degree in a discipline, graduate‑level courses in the discipline/subfield and methods courses specifically for teaching that discipline/subfield may be considered to meet the 18 graduate credit hour minimum.
  • Non‑US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries; courses are reviewed on an individual basis.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License and subject to FVTC’s Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Check.
  • Proficiency utilizing a learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills; adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.
  • Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and other job‑specific licensing standards.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
