Position: 26-27 Assistant Principal

Position Summary

The Assistant Principal is accountable to the principal of the school to which assigned. The Assistant Principal assumes administrative and supervisory tasks as directed by the principal. The Assistant Principal is authorized to act in the absence of the principal as directed.

Required Certifications / Licenses

Must have or be eligible for Wisconsin certification as a principal. Must obtain certification in Educator Effectiveness through Teach Scape within 90 days after start date.

Formal Education

Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership and Supervision

Experience

Minimum of three years of teaching and/or administrative experience.

Montessori Experience Preferred Core Competencies
  • Basic understanding of the dynamics of public Montessori.
  • Is an instructional leader with experience in instructional strategies for English Language Learners and students with special education needs.
  • Understands how to use multiple sources of data to inform daily decisions to improve instructional practice and instills this practice in staff.
  • Pursues and helps support innovative ideas and methods, remains committed to seeking out and sharing current research and evidence-based best practices.
  • Demonstrates an unyielding commitment to continuous improvement and an unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
  • Commitment to the Racine Unified School District’s mission and values.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse group of leaders.
  • Capability to effectively build, develop, and maintain strong collaborative relationships with staff, teachers, parents, students, and community stakeholders to ensure that the school operates in the most effective manner possible to support the school and directing principal needs.

Essential Functions
  • Assists the principal in serving as the instructional and organizational leader of the school.
  • Assumes daily operational tasks that include but are not limited to the following responsibilities: student and teacher scheduling, student transportation, student activities, establishing and maintaining student discipline, arranging and participating in conferences with students, teachers, counselors and parents, and maintaining necessary anecdotal records including I.E.P. Conferences.
  • Conducts classroom observations and teacher evaluations and any other class of building employees at the direction of the principal.
  • Provides service to staff members through orientation activities, counseling, faculty meetings, providing instructional materials, and curriculum development activities.
  • Assists the principal with public relations functions including P.T.A. general and board meetings, developing and contacting community resources to be used as a supplement to the curriculum including newspaper, radio, and television.
  • Serves as the building administrator in the absence of the principal.
  • Attends regularly scheduled Data Team Meetings.
  • Assumes any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Directing Principal.
Work Environment

Busy office environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight‑hour day
  • Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to thirty pounds without assistance in an indoor setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance
  • Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building
