Position Purpose
Provide special education services for K‑5 students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Focus on high‑needs students with functional/adaptive challenges.
Required Certifications/Licenses- Wisconsin Special Education Cross Categorical #801 or equivalent valid special education license.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
- IB experience or training required.
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
Preferred Experience- Experience working with students who have diverse academic, functional, and behavioral needs.
- Experience in an urban, culturally diverse setting.
- Commitment to the belief that all students can learn.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- High standards of professional conduct and appearance.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records under FERPA and HIPAA.
- Adherence to district policies and state special education timelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Apps, and rapid learning of Infinite Campus.
- Understanding and application of instructional and behavioral strategies, supports, and interventions.
- Successful collaboration in independent, team, and small or large group settings.
- Gather and conduct informal assessment data; develop, write, and monitor IEP progress for students receiving special education services.
- Case manage and deliver specialized instruction as indicated in IEPs in regular or special education environments.
- Collaborate with regular education teachers to align curriculum supports and supplementary aids and services.
- Communicate positively and constructively with students, families, educational assistants, and fellow teachers.
- Promptly complete required records, forms, and reports; maintain compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of state standards and adapt curriculum to individual student learning needs.
- Effectively work with students who have diverse learning styles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight‑hour day.
- Perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to ten pounds without assistance in an indoor setting.
- Communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance.
- Move throughout the building and from building to building.
- Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc.
- Hearing adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone.
- Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm.
- Maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy.
Primarily in the school setting.
SafetyResponsible for protecting oneself and others from occupational accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
