Position: Instructor, Environmental Health and Water Quality (Part-time)

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is Wisconsin's largest and most diverse technical college, offering a variety of programs that connect students to careers in as little as one to two years. The college also offers a less expensive path to a four‑year degree.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching‑related activities.
  • Manage the classroom and laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow‑up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements

Must have a Master’s Degree in one of the following:
Environmental Health/Public Health with a focus in Environmental Health, or a related field such as Environmental Sciences and Safety.

Occupational Experience

Minimum of two (2) years full‑time or equivalent (4000 hours) of Environmental Health experience, including two (2) or more of the following areas:
Food and Dairy Safety;
Air Quality Monitoring;
Industrial Hygiene and Water Quality.

Additionally, one of the following must be met:

  • Two (2) years of experience occurred within the last five years.
  • Two (2) years of teaching Environmental Health coursework at the post‑secondary level within the last five years.
Preferred Certifications

Registered Sanitarian (RS) with WI Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) – National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).

  • Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
  • Effective communication through both oral and written means.
  • Knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
  • Meet State of Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) instruction certification requirements.
  • Meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
  • Ability to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.

  • Online Information Management Systems – Experience with self‑service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Blackboard Ultra – Experience with Blackboard or other web‑based course management systems.
  • Technology‑based Instruction – Experience with a technology‑based instructional delivery system including SMART H5P, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Emerging Technologies – Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications).
Start Date

Position supports the STEM Pathway and is available to start in fall semester – August 10, 2026.

Hours

This is a part‑time faculty pool position. Assignments are temporary and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. All work must be performed in the state of Wisconsin. Candidates must be flexible to teach in any combination of the following:
