Job Summary

Adjunct instructors are responsible for facilitating student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
  • Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.
  • Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the college and our programs.
  • Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and maintain employment in the field. Attend Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • Curriculum Development – Develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education and/or Experience – Associate degree or the degree/licensure level at which the adjunct instructor is teaching at minimum (Bachelor’s degree preferred). Minimum of two years of occupational experience in the target job for the program or programs being taught, of which at least one year shall be within five years prior to date of hire. Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Must be qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of and throughout employment as an instructor. Must meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job‑specific licensing standards.
  • Non‑US degrees or courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries; courses will be reviewed on an individual basis.
  • Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements – Proficiency utilizing a learning management system; strong verbal communication skills; ability to adapt quickly to changing demands; ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences; a background check inclusive of criminal record will be conducted before hire.
Physical Requirements
  • Mobility – Ability to move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students’ desks or workstations.
  • Standing and Sitting – Capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, and to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.
  • Speech and Hearing – Clear speech and the ability to hear students’ questions and interactions are essential for effective instruction.
  • Fine Motor Skills – Need for precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology.
  • Visual Acuity – Adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment.
  • Repetitive Motions – Capacity to perform repetitive motions such as typing without discomfort or injury.
