Job Title:
International Baccalaureate (IB) Teacher
The IB Teacher is responsible for delivering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in a student-centered environment. This role focuses on fostering critical thinking, global awareness, and inquiry-based learning while guiding students through academic challenges and assessments in the IB program (PYP, MYP, or DP). The IB Teacher is expected to act as both a facilitator and mentor, cultivating well-rounded, globally-minded individuals.
A strong understanding of IB teaching philosophies, curriculum standards, and assessment practices is essential.
- Curriculum Delivery:
Plan and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the IB curriculum. Integrate real-world applications and interdisciplinary connections to deepen student understanding. - Inquiry-Based Learning:
Create a classroom environment where students actively explore concepts, ask questions, and develop critical thinking skills through inquiry-driven activities. - Differentiated Instruction:
Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students, ensuring inclusivity and individual academic growth. - Assessment and Feedback:
Use a variety of formative and summative assessment methods to track student progress, offer timely feedback, and guide further learning. - Collaborative Learning:
Foster collaboration and teamwork among students to enhance communication, creativity, and diverse perspectives within the classroom. - Global Perspective:
Incorporate global issues and cultural understanding into the curriculum, encouraging students to appreciate multiple viewpoints and perspectives. - Student Support:
Serve as a mentor and advisor, providing both academic guidance and personal support to students as they develop intellectually and emotionally. - Professional Development:
Pursue ongoing required professional development opportunities to stay current with the latest IB methodologies, curriculum changes, and assessment practices. These trainings are often held over weekends and are not compensated; we attempt to utilize professional learning days when possible.
- A valid teaching license in the relevant subject area.
- Bachelor’s degree in the related subject area.
- IB teacher certification required (PYP, MYP, or DP depending on the teaching level). Candidates will have a 1-year timeframe upon accepting their position to obtain the required certification.
- Experience in inquiry-based learning and differentiated instruction.
- Strong understanding of IB philosophy and assessment criteria.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Passion for fostering global awareness and critical thinking.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
