Job Description SummaryAdjunct Instructors facilitate student learning and continuously develop instructional strategies that promote student success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
- Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on evidence.
- Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain an instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department and staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
- Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
- Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Curriculum Development – Develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
- Master's degree in a Social Science discipline.
- Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in a Social Science discipline.
- Master's degree in a related field AND Department of Public Instruction licensure in a Social Science discipline or subfield they teach.
Non‑US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries. Courses are reviewed on an individual basis.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements- Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Mobility – move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students' desks or workstations.
- Standing and Sitting – stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations and sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.
- Lifting and Carrying – lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props as needed.
- Speech and Hearing – clear speech and the ability to hear students' questions and interactions.
- Fine Motor Skills – precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology.
- Visual Acuity – adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment.
