Job Description SummaryAdjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
- Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and its programs.
- Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
- Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Curriculum Development – If needed, develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Master's degree in Microbiology or Clinical Microbiology/Lab Science discipline.
- Master's degree in related field with at least 18 graduate credits in a Microbiology‑related discipline.
- Master's degree in related field AND Department of Public Instruction licensure in a discipline or subfield they teach.
Additional Educational Considerations (for Master of Education holders)
- Graduate‑level courses in the discipline/subfield and methods courses that are specifically for the teaching of that discipline/subfield may be considered for meeting the 18 graduate credit hour minimum.
- Non‑US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries. Courses to be reviewed on an individual basis.
- Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor. Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job‑specific licensing standards.
