Position: Instructional Designer (full-time/LTE/1950 hours/year) @ Any Northwood Tech Campus Location

Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time limited‑term Instructional Designer at any of our four campus locations (Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake, or Superior). This position is term‑limited until June 30, 2027.

Role Overview

The Instructional Designer will lead and mentor the implementation and integration of current and emerging research‑based theories of teaching and learning. Through workshops, one‑on‑one consultations, videos, and self‑paced methods, the Designer will promote and support the use of instructional design principles and assessment strategies to enhance teaching and learning across all course content and delivery modes. The Designer will collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and college stakeholders to determine appropriate practices and methods to accomplish identified outcomes and will represent the values of the College by participating in work groups, committees, or teams related to effective teaching and learning strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work remotely with minimal on‑campus duties; remote arrangements subject to state employment laws.
  • Model and develop instructional tools, techniques, and strategies that enhance student learning.
  • Assist faculty in designing and developing engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound course materials for all instructional delivery modes.
  • Create engaging learning activities and course content that enhances retention and student success.
  • Apply best‑practice instructional design techniques and assessment strategies to enhance instructional delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with the curriculum director, program faculty, academic deans, and subject matter experts on course and program design, including curriculum development, mapping, and assessment.
  • Ensure the accessibility and inclusivity of all courses, materials, and LMS standards.
  • Integrate innovative technology into course and program development.
  • Research, identify, and create supporting materials/media (audio, video, simulations, activities, etc.).
  • Design, develop, and manage resources that support and enhance faculty instructional activities.
  • Review content and assessments for quality and alignment to curriculum development principles and standards during quality review cycles and prior to release.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional content and assessment strategies.
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings and team activities related to curriculum design and development.
  • Provide instructional expertise, guidance, and support to the college community.
  • Partner with Professional Development and IT staff in developing resources to assist faculty with software and technologies.
  • Remain at the cutting edge of technology‑enhanced learning, curriculum, and assessment strategies.
  • Promote accessible and affordable educational resources in curriculum development.
  • Assist faculty and academic deans to ensure teaching and learning aligns with program accreditation and external standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Degree & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Three years of related work experience.
  • One year of supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Two years teaching at the post‑secondary level.
