Job Description Summary

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – develop appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support engagement. Use multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies (hybrid, in‑person, virtual, online) to maximize student success.
  • Assessment – assess student learning and provide regular feedback. Use data to measure course outcomes and implement improvement strategies.
  • Classroom Management – maintain accurate attendance and grade records, ensure a safe and secure instructional environment, and facilitate evaluation of student engagement.
  • Team Participation – support the college by engaging with the department and staying current with internal and external initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement – build and maintain relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners and promote the College and its programs.
  • Student Success & Support – serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students and close achievement gaps.
  • Professional Development – continue to improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, teaching practices, and the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure needed for accreditation.
  • Curriculum Development – develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with college policy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Master’s degree in English as a Second Language (ESL), Applied Linguistics, or English, OR a Master’s of Education degree with at least 18 graduate credits in the above areas.
  • Non‑US degrees or courses may be reviewed on an individual basis.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Proficiency in learning management systems.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands and student needs.
  • Effective professional communication with a variety of audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement and embrace innovative instruction methods.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and required licensure upon hire.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements at time of hire and throughout employment (including HLC, FQAS, or other licensing standards).
  • Background check (criminal record) will be conducted prior to hire.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting: extended periods of sitting while using computer systems.
  • Mobility: occasional need to attend meetings, office tours, or events.
  • Fine Motor

    Skills:

    precise hand movements for writing, demonstrations, or instructional technology.
  • Repetitive Motions: typing and other repetitive motions without discomfort.
  • Communication: clear verbal and written skills for interacting with employees, candidates and stakeholders.
Work Environment
  • Work may be completed virtually or in a hybrid setting.
  • Work is typically performed in a classroom.

Additional Information

Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour. Pay is based on experience, qualifications, and internal equivalence.
