Health Educator
Health Educators are responsible for the support of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success in conjunction with course instructors. Educators support the primary instructor by developing intensive education support sessions available for all students registered in some of our most challenging program courses. Educators work closely with faculty members on course content and provide students with extended learning time to review and expand on course materials.
Educators, along with the course instructor, meet during the course scheduled time and provide additional support outside of the scheduled course. Primary instruction and assessment are the responsibility of the course instructor; the health educator provides support for that instruction. Maximum 11.75 hours per week.
- Foster student learning by collaborating with course faculty and health coaches to develop/deliver instructional support content that meets diverse student needs.
- Employ engaging learning experiences using multiple delivery methods: hybrid, in-person, virtual, and online.
- Assist students in practicing and reinforcing content and skills from appropriate courses.
- Assist students and instructors with computer technology and software applications used in practice.
- Assess student learning activities and provide regular feedback to promote success.
- Develop course support activities to monitor and assess student progress.
- Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services to retain students and close achievement gaps.
- Proctor student exams in appropriate situations.
- Consult with instructors and health coaches on student progress, behaviors, and concerns.
- Fulfill assigned schedule and maintain accurate student attendance.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and secure instructional support environment.
- Set up and maintain practice learning stations.
- Recommend and prepare supplies and equipment needed for supportive course content and student practice
- Engage with course leads and departmental teams to support college initiatives.
- Stay current with internal and external changes and developments.
- Participate in activities to remain current in professional practice, techniques, equipment, and regulatory standards.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Associate degree in Nursing, Allied Health, or Dental Hygiene necessary to support assigned coursework and faculty in Nursing, Medical Assistant, Health Information Technology, and/or Dental Hygiene programs.
- Demonstrated recent, relevant work experience.
- Recommended depending on program support course.
- Proficiency utilizing learning management systems.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Work will be completed in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually.
Physical Requirements
- Mobility:
The ability to move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students' desks or workstations. - Standing and Sitting:
The capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, as well as the ability to sit for administrative tasks. - Lifting and Carrying:
Depending on the subject matter, the role may need to lift and carry teaching materials or equipment. - Fine Motor
Skills:
This role may need precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers. - Communication:
Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with colleagues and students, both in-person and through electronic means.
