Job DescriptionOverview and Impact
Homework Hub:
Math Edition is a new program launching in Fall 2026 at Appleton Public Library designed to help teens build confidence and skills in the area of mathematics. Math tutoring volunteers will provide after-school homework assistance to teens in grades 6-12 with a special focus on arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. APL offers free access to space, computers with internet access, wi-fi, and digital resources.
of Duties
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Provide 1:1 assistance to middle school and high school teens looking to strengthen or build their math skills.
- Help students understand math homework and assignments.
- Break down complex concepts into simple, easy-to-follow steps.
- Offer helpful study tips when appropriate.
- Refer students to free academic online resources when possible.
Qualifications and Commitment:
- Passionate about helping teens in our community.
- Proficient in basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.
- Previous or current teaching, tutoring or work experience using math is desirable but not required.
- Build and maintain a patient, encouraging, and positive learning environment.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable attitude.
- Predictable attendance; able to commit to 2 hours a week on Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm during the school term.
- A designated study space and materials to help support volunteers will be provided.
