Building Automation Controls Designer

Responsibilities

• Design hardware and program software for HVAC control systems to meet project requirements.
• Provide detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, field installation teams, and subcontractors.
• Respond to basic warranty calls.
• Select hardware designs from the standard design library for flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bill of materials, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required.
• Perform software programming using established design standards.
• Coordinate creation of drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
• Select, order, and track delivery of materials for assigned projects.
• Coordinate factory‑mounting processes to meet factory and project schedules.
• Assist in loading and commissioning of system and network‑level controllers.
• Assist in validating complete system functionality and troubleshoot problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
• Gather field changes from the project team and create as‑built drawings and software.
• Prepare proper documentation and manuals for system operation.
• Keep management and contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
• Assist in site‑specific training for owner/operator on the total system.
• Complete paperwork including timesheets, expense reports, and on‑site documentation.
• Adhere to safety standards, maintaining a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.

• University degree and minimum 1 year experience, or 2‑year degree and minimum 6 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience installing and/or commissioning control systems, including system‑level controllers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
• Demonstrated technical aptitude.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Preferred:
  Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

• Hourly rate range: $26–$37 (dependent on education, experience, skills, and market data).
