Position: PCB Design Electrical Engineer (Windsor, WI)

Role Overview

Genus PLC has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design Electrical Engineer to implement design and circuit boards for use in flow cytometers used in the analysis and processing of animal cells.

This position will work closely with fellow Electrical Engineers, Embedded Engineers, System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software to deliver next generation circuit boards to improve system performance. The PCB Design Engineer has primary accountability for maintaining ownership of the design in constraint development, schematic capture, design review, supplier layout, layout review, drawing development, prototype, testing, and release.

The position is an onsite role located in our Windsor, Wisconsin office with hybrid options available after satisfactory onboarding and introductory performance.

The salary range for this position is $82,000 - $100,000 USD. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

You Will
  • Support existing electrical design with manufacturing and sourcing support.
  • Read and understand system requirements and architecture drawings for pertinent circuit PCB requirements.
  • Link relevant PCB requirements to system requirements, identify circuit components required to achieve PCB and system requirements.
  • Model, simulate, and test early proof of concept on subcircuits as pertinent to larger PCB design efforts.
  • Perform schematic capture on power systems, digital electronics, and analog electronics in hierarchical and non-hierarchical workflows.
  • Select appropriate components while evaluating sourcing and electrical needs, drive alternative selection, and support the central symbol and footprint library.
  • Appropriately constrain layout for stack up, highspeed interconnect, high density interconnect, DFM, DFT, thermal management, panels, flying probe, ICT, EMC, and general best practices.
  • Host design reviews of cross disciplinary teams surrounding PCB design and requirements for both schematics and layouts.
  • Guide external and internal layout resources to achieve high quality, reliable, high performing PCBs.
  • Develop and maintain clear and concise drawings and PCB manufacturing packages including BOMs, Assembly Drawings, Fab drawings, Drill Drawings, manufacturing files, and others.
  • Own the development of rapid prototypes and testing of early circuit boards.
  • Work with manufacturing team to transition completed designs into full production workflows.
  • Follow defined architecture and engineering best practices.
  • Communicate progress, blockers, timeline, and priorities to stakeholders.
  • Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
  • Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
  • Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field OR equivalent technical experience in circuit board design with a technical degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience with electronic troubleshooting utilizing engineering test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DVMs, current probes, network analyzers, or arbitrary wave generators. This can include an internship
  • Ability to read, and understand electrical schematics and datasheets for digital and electrical devices
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience with professional level PCB design tools like Altium (preferred), Cadence Allegro, PADS, KiCAD or Cadence OrCAD
