As a Structural Engineer at AFRY, you will design new structures and upgrade existing ones. Your responsibilities include site investigations, structural engineering, drafting for both front‑end planning and detailed engineering phases for multi‑discipline projects.
Principal ObjectiveAs a Mid‑Level Structural Engineer, you will serve as Discipline Lead on multi‑discipline project teams. You will lead engineers and designers to develop and design the structural portion of projects, make design recommendations and decisions, and oversee the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
Responsibilities- Perform as project lead engineer for small and larger projects with little oversight, managing staff production effort in terms of quality, budget, and schedule, and overseeing work throughout conceptual, feasibility, detailed design, and construction stages.
- Assist in preparation of proposals and marketing materials by defining and writing project scope and activities based on past projects.
- Establish project scope, structural budgets, and design approach.
- Meet with client personnel to assist in preliminary planning and identify design concepts.
- Work with clients and professional counterparts to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to or exceeding client expectations.
- Lead the design of structural systems and components for a variety of commercial and industrial facility types, ensuring the designs conform to recognized codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Perform structural engineering, detailing, analysis and design, and write technical and study reports.
- Participate in planning, designing, or reviewing plans, working closely with mechanical, process, electrical, architectural and civil disciplines to deliver successful projects.
- Visit project sites to collect data and observe construction progress.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Structural Engineering.
- Knowledge of steel, concrete, and timber design and familiarity with applicable codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, etc.).
- Preferred software knowledge:
Revit, BIM, AutoCAD, RISA 3D, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. - Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for effective client and team communication, both virtual and in‑person.
- Strong organizational, analytical, time‑management skills with high attention to detail and self‑motivation.
- Ability to set priorities, deadlines, and balance multiple projects.
- Adaptability, problem‑solving, and ability to work under tight deadlines while learning new technologies with minimal support.
- Current knowledge of industry codes and standards and experience with the latest engineering analysis software and techniques.
