Mission Hires is seeking an Electrical Department Manager to lead and grow an electrical engineering team delivering design and advisory services across complex industrial and manufacturing projects in the Energy sector (power generation, T&D, renewables). This role will serve as Engineer of Record, interface directly with clients, drive business development, ensure quality and safety, and manage departmental operations including staffing, utilization, mentoring, recruiting, and succession planning.
Location options:
Appleton, WI or Birmingham, AL. Full-time, permanent. Must be eligible to work in the USA.
- Lead and manage the electrical engineering department, including career development, mentoring, and technical growth of team members
- Serve as Engineer of Record and primary client interface for complex industrial/manufacturing projects
- Oversee electrical scopes of work, ensuring quality assurance and technical oversight of deliverables
- Support project pursuits by developing work plans, design schedules, and fee estimates
- Coordinate with project delivery stakeholders to align resources, meet delivery needs, and achieve utilization and billability targets
- Drive client engagement, relationship development, and winning new work; deliver innovative, value-driven solutions
- Provide strategic planning for new opportunities, including exploration, concept, and development phases with emerging technologies
- Guide concept and developed design optimization to support sound technical decision-making
- Recruit, retain, and execute succession planning for the department
- Develop and maintain relationships with global peer managers
- Work independently across a broad range of tasks while providing guidance to junior staff
- Uphold and foster a safety-first culture across all activities
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, or related discipline
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 10+ years of electrical design and consulting experience with clients, service providers, contractors, OEMs, owner/developers, and/or lenders
- Proven ability to engage clients, build relationships, win work, and deliver innovative, value-focused solutions
- Demonstrated capability in strategic planning for new projects, including application of new and emerging technologies
- Experience with concept and developed design optimization to support technical decision-making
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently and mentor junior staff
- Eligibility to work in the USA
- Highly regarded: prior management of electrical engineering staff
- Highly regarded: accountability for staff billability/utilization aligned to business and financial goals
- Highly regarded: experience with power distribution systems and microgrids
- Highly regarded: experience on power generation projects exceeding 10 MW
- Highly regarded: high-voltage transmission or medium-voltage distribution substations
- Highly regarded: energy storage systems
- Highly regarded: power system modeling using SKM Power Tools, ETAP, Easy Power, or similar
- Highly regarded: protection and control, SCADA, or power system automation
- Highly regarded: cogeneration or combined heat and power systems
- Highly regarded: thermal utility plants and distribution systems (steam, hot water, chilled water)
- Highly regarded: high-voltage design for large-scale manufacturing
