Kerber Rose Human Resources is partnering with a Wisconsin municipal organization to recruit a Finance Director for a full-time, exempt leadership role. This position serves as a key member of the executive team and works closely with Village Administration to support the organization’s mission, strategic goals, and long-term financial sustainability.

Role Overview

The Finance Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all municipal financial functions, ensuring fiscal integrity, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public resources. This role balances technical municipal finance expertise with collaborative leadership, mentoring staff while advising leadership and elected officials on complex financial matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all finance operations, including governmental and utility enterprise funds
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and procedures
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, capital improvement planning, and long‑term financial strategy
  • Manage accounting, payroll, benefits administration, investments, debt, audits, and regulatory compliance
  • Serve as Treasurer and oversee investment activities in accordance with adopted policies
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable information for leadership and stakeholders
  • Provide financial guidance related to economic development initiatives, including TIF districts
  • Partner with leadership on organizational talent strategy, succession planning, and policy development
  • Mentor and develop a collaborative, high‑performing finance team
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in governmental or municipal accounting
  • Strong knowledge of governmental fund accounting, GASB standards, and public‑sector regulations
  • Proven leadership and communication skills
Preferred
  • Master’s degree and/or CPA
  • Experience with municipal financial systems (ERP experience a plus)
