the sheriff’s office is seeking a detail‑oriented and dedicated accountant to support the financial operations behind critical public safety services.
the accountant oversees the budgets and fiscal operations of the sheriff office, supervises and directs the fiscal activities of the jail commissary system, and coordinates the fiscal requirements for the sheriff's office's grants and contractual services.
hoursthis full time position is a 40 hour per week position, generally monday‑friday, with work schedule flexibility available. There are possibilities of overtime or comp time.

- coordinates the development of the annual department budget…
- manages jail accounting and commissary program…
- coordinates billing of state, municipal, juvenile and county jail rental beds.
- coordinates annual audit…
- coordinates fiscal activity for state inmates…
- supervises operations assistant…
- completes special accounting projects and fiscal notes…
- coordinates department grants and contracted services…
- associate degree in accounting with three to five years accounting experience in computers.
- or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- comprehend and interpret a variety of documents including accounting ledgers and account activity sheets, accounting reports, computer and policy manuals, grants and contracts, etc.
- prepare a variety of documents including financial reports, billing statements, account balances, budget transfers, etc.
- communicate effectively with clerks, correctional officers, finance department personnel, prisoners, and others verbally and in writing.
- ability to use and interpret accounting terminology.
- ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percents. May also require ability to use descriptive statistics.
- ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
