Purpose:

The Accounting Specialist supports the financial operations of Prospera Credit Union by performing a variety of accounting and administrative tasks. This position needs to maintain confidentiality and uphold credit union values in all interactions. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy in daily transaction processing, general ledger reconciliation and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily balancing - 70%
  • Reconciling daily transactions
  • Reconciling bank statements
  • Prepare and post journal entries
• Accounts Payable - 20%
  • Invoice processing
  • Weekly accounts payable processing
  • Vendor management
  • 1099 MISC and NEC
• Month End - 5%
  • Month end journal entries
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations
  • In-house account reconciliations
• Other - 5%
  • Regulatory reporting
  • Submit tax payments
  • Escheat and staled dated financial instruments
  • Keep procedures up to date

What We're Looking For:

• Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
• 2-4 years of accounting experience; credit union or financial institution experience is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and with a team with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
