Monthly salary ranges: CCO1: $4,603.00 to $6,190.00 (Step G $5,338.00). CCO2: $5,610.00 to $7,540.00.

Overview

We are actively recruiting for a full‑time, permanent Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) within the Community Corrections Division at 10109 South Tacoma Way, Lakewood, WA 98449. The North and South Pierce County Special Assault Units supervise sex offenders and others under supervision. A CCO2 has an in‑training plan and may be appointed at the CCO1 level or directly at the CCO2 level, depending on qualifications.

The role works Monday‑Friday 0800‑1700.

Responsibilities

The CCO2 collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support effective supervision and accountability of supervised individuals under agency jurisdiction, aiming to enhance safe reentry into the community.

  • Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests.
  • Complete intake procedures.
  • Administer assessments (risk, needs, substance abuse).
  • Manage electronic and hard copy files and reports.

Engage with supervised individuals to promote positive change using communication strategies such as:

  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Principles of Effective Interventions

Enforce supervision conditions and the law:

  • Present accurate written documentation and oral testimony; recommend sanctions for courts and hearings.
  • Collect and maintain evidence, ensuring chain of custody.
  • Follow department policies and procedures for firearms usage and safety vest during outside‑office contact.
  • Ensure proper safety and security measures while armed.

Other duties as assigned.

Community Corrections Officer 1 (CCO1) Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
  • Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
  • Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; ability to review graphic materials and remain objective.
  • Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework or experience in three or more of the following:
    • Written communication skills.
    • Critical thinking.
    • Analytical reasoning.
    • Conflict resolution.
    • Situational awareness.
    • Problem solving.
    • Organizational skill.
    • Work independently.
    • Flexibility.
  • AND:
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent AND at least four years of the qualifying experience above.
    • Associate or technical degree AND two years of the qualifying experience above.
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
    • Or an equivalent combination totaling four years of experience.
Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
  • Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
  • Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; ability to review graphic materials and remain objective.
  • Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework or professional work experience in three or more of the following:
    • Making field visits.
    • Preparing written correspondence, reports, or documents.
    • Assessing cases and making recommendations.
    • Referring people to appropriate resources.
    • Presenting cases in court or hearings.
    • Completing risk factor assessments.
    • Designing, monitoring, and facilitating treatment plans.
    • Determining and making referrals to resources such as chemical dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training assistance.
    • Maintaining official records and tracking progress.
    • Assisting individuals unable to access support systems.
    • Making sound case management decisions under stress.
    • Using computer and software to enter, retrieve, and store data.
    • Managing caseloads with conflicting priorities.
