Our Health Department is searching for a Weights & Measures Specialist to join the team. The Weights and Measures Specialist promotes consumer protection and fair-trade practices by assisting the Operations Supervisor - Health with the administration and operation of the Weights and Measures (W&M) inspection programs in Appleton and the East Central W&M consortium contracted municipalities. This position supports the development of timely inspection programs to ensure compliance with State Weights and Measures Law.

The work involves conducting inspections, tests, and enforcement actions on weighing and measuring equipment, price-scanning systems, and bulk and prepackaged consumer products to ensure accuracy, proper labeling, and fair-trade practices. The incumbent works under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor – Health.

• Collects and analyzes data from W&M inspections, interprets results, and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
• Provides technical assistance and regulatory compliance advice to individuals, groups, and organizations regarding W&M issues.

• Assists in coordinating W&M activities with other agencies and jurisdictions.
• Collaborates in the development of best management practices and regulations for consumer protection.

• Delivers targeted, culturally-appropriate information to help individuals and groups understand W&M policies and regulations.

• Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, and racial backgrounds.
• Adheres to ethical principles and department policies in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information.

• Educates the public on W&M issues and the importance of fair-trade practices.
• Contributes to community health assessment and improvement planning activities as needed.

• Conducts routine inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices to ensure compliance with local and state codes, regulations, and policies.
• Provides education and technical assistance to merchants and vendors regarding compliance with W&M regulations.
• Assists in identifying and resolving issues related to accuracy and fair-trade practices in various settings.
• Responds to public complaints regarding W&M issues and assists in initiating corrective actions as required.
• Participates in response efforts emergencies, as required.
• Contributes to quality improvement and performance management activities within the Health Department.

• Assists in activities that contribute to budget development and efficient use of resources.

• Demonstrates knowledge of applicable professional guidelines and federal and state laws and regulations.
• Pursues ongoing professional growth and development through education and participation in professional committees and work groups.

• Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance.
