Job Description

Biomedical Engineering Specialist to diagnose, repair, and maintain medical equipment at University Hospital in Madison, WI. The role entails independent troubleshooting in shop and critical‑care settings including operating rooms, trauma units, emergency rooms, and patient care areas.

Schedule

100% FTE, Day shift. Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Hours may vary based on operational needs of the department.

Compensation
  • Eligible for a $15,000.00 sign‑on bonus (prorated for FTE).
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose defective medical equipment and implement repairs independently.
  • Perform, coordinate, monitor, and supervise a preventative maintenance program to ensure equipment compliance.
  • Determine the practicality and cost‑effectiveness of utilizing vendors or in‑house staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable codes and standards, including those issued by the Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies.
  • Assist with new device implementation, training, and workflow enhancements for various clinical groups.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in HTM/Biomedical Engineering or completion of DOD Biomedical Technician training (Required).
  • Bachelor's Degree in HTM/Biomedical Engineering or completion of DOD Biomedical Technician training (Preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Biomedical Technician in a healthcare setting (Required; 8 years preferred).
  • Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certification (Required).
  • Certification as a Biomedical Electronic Technician (CBET) preferred.
