Job Description
Float Phlebotomist
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Experience in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and/or other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear but courteous manner. Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% correctness. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attends annual department training. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

- 2 years of true Hospital or Clinic experience (donor sites do not count!)
Medical Lab - Specimen Collection sites. This is a Float Role that can have a Home Site in Madison or Waukesha. Travel to Madison, Waukesha, Watertown, Johnson Creek, Beloit, and occasionally Wautoma for vacation coverage. Will be reimbursed for mileage and paid for travel time!
