Patient Care Technician; PCT - Surgical Services

Schedule:

PRN, not benefit eligible Nights (5:30p-6:00am) Every 3rd weekend rotation Holiday rotation

• Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence‑based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
• Checks patients’ vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type.
• Provides compassionate care and listens to patients’ concerns and guides them by answering any questions or concerns.
• Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports to the care team.
• Repositions, transfers, ambulates and transports patients.
• Assists patients with basic needs such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing.
• Obtains and reports patient intake and output.
• Performs electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
• Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Provides care that is age‑appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety.
• Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age required except for Peabody Manor, The Heritage, or Juliette Manor.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• American Heart Association Health Care Provider Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance.
• Job classification is exposed to blood‑borne pathogens while performing job duties.
• Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination required to perform patient care procedures.

• Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
• Occasional high noise level in work environment.
• Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.
• Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood of injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed.
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
• Occasional contact with aggressive and/or combative patients.
• Position requires compliance with department‑specific competencies.
