Patient Care Technician

About the Position

Under the supervision of the LPN, RN, or nurse leader, the Patient Care Tech (PCT) performs patient‑centered, evidence‑based nursing care activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient. Through collaborative practice with all members of the care team, the PCT is responsible for patient outcomes that meet the high quality of care provided by Theda Care. The PCT contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate, safe care and demonstrates a commitment to continuous growth and professional development.

• Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence‑based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
• Checks patients’ vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type.
• Provides compassionate care and listens to patients’ concerns and guides them by answering any questions or concerns.
• Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports to care team.
• Repositions, transfers, ambulates, and transports patients.
• Assists patients with basic needs (such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing).
• Obtains and reports patient intake and output.
• Performs electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
• Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Provides care that is age appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety.
• Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age; exception for specified locations.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• American Heart Association Health Care Provider Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance. Exposure to blood borne pathogens, manual dexterity, and hand‑eye coordination required. Physical workload may involve standing and walking for extended periods, moving patients, and handling sharp instruments.

Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments, occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and high noise levels. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and contact with aggressive or combative patients.
