Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible to plan, organize, develop and implement the overall operation of the Activity Department; to ensure an on-going program of activities meet the needs and interests of each resident; provides daily oversight over the service program and training and supervision under the general direction of the Administrator.
Essential Functions- Directs the work of and manages the activity staff. Participates in the selection of new employees. Provides training and instructions and ongoing training needs. Assigns tasks, reviews work and prepares performance evaluations. Provides staff coaching/counseling. Recommends employee transfers, promotions, disciplinary action, and discharge.
- Determines department staffing hours/requirements necessary to meet Departments needs and assigns activity personnel for each duty.
- Identifies Staff Development needs, coordinates training with Administrator. Oversees and supervises development and delivery of in-service education to equip staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, quality care and respect for resident rights and Resident centered care.
- Develops and recommends annual operating budget information to the Administrator, forecasts necessary funding for program needs, staff, and equipment. Monitors budget, contracts, services, and other factors to ensure compliance; identifies problem areas and recommends refinements; authorizes expenditures.
- Develops activity services objectives, policies and procedures and directs the implementation of these objectives. Continuously monitors Federal and State guidelines and requirements and revises procedures accordingly.
- Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to activity staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs activity programs of this facility.
- Interview resident or family members to obtain activity information, planning objectives, goals, discharge planning, care plans and resident assessments. Develops a written plan of care for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident and goal to accomplish each problem or need.
- Ensure all charted Activity Progress Notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided for each individual resident.
- Reviews Resident activity participation levels weekly and revises Care Plans when needed to meet the resident needs.
- Develops quarterly Quality Assessments for Quality Assurance program and implement plan to identify deficiencies and action plans.
- Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary.
- Assists room bound residents with leisure time activities, providing materials for individual activities and running errands as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field preferred.
- Must meet one of the following experience requirements:
- Three (3) years of experience working with elderly or disabled populations, preferably in a long-term care setting; or
- Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years, one (1) of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting.
- Must be certified as an Activity Director by the State of Wisconsin or hold certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), as required by applicable regulations.
- Must successfully pass criminal and caregiver background checks.
Expected Hiring Range: $60,944 – $68,952/year
Full Salary Range: $60,944 – $84,906/year
