Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Location: Dane County, Wisconsin
Position Type: Full-Time | School-Based
Onward Education is seeking a dedicated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to support students in a school-based setting. The COTA will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) to help students develop sensory, motor, social, executive functioning, and self-regulation skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide occupational therapy services under the supervision of an OTR.
- Support students with sensory strategies, executive functioning, social skills, and fine and gross motor development.
- Assist with implementing IEP goals and treatment plans.
- Provide direct and consultative support to students.
- Maintain accurate treatment records and progress notes.
- Collect and analyze data related to student IEP goals.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other school staff.
- Provide classroom intervention strategies and staff training as needed.
- Support and troubleshoot assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Implement student-specific plans for cognitive regulation, social skill development, and self-regulation.
- Facilitate social interactions, skill development, and small-group activities.
- Provide individualized support through prompting, behavior replacement, and regulation strategies.
- Assist with student medical needs as required.
- Support students and paraprofessionals as appropriate.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Special Education Director.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant studies.
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction School Occupational Therapist Assistant license (Code 0052).
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, families, and other professionals.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy practices and educational strategies.
- Ability to use computers, assistive technology, and other technology to support student needs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, and move throughout the school environment.
- Ability to assist students with physical and behavioral needs.
- May occasionally be required to lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise and frequent interaction with students and staff.
