Description of Role

The Wisconsin Elections Commission is charged under Wisconsin Statutes to administer and enforce election laws. The Commission’s core missions include providing education, training, outreach, technical assistance, and advice to municipal and county clerks and local election inspectors, and ensuring compliance with election laws. The Commission also provides current and accurate information about Wisconsin’s electoral processes, voting statistics, and trends.

This position functions under the supervision of the IT Project Manager and IT Director, as part of the Information Technology team, and serves as a resource for developers and election specialists.

The role is responsible for designing, helping to develop, and maintaining the UI/UX for the rebuilding of Wisconsin’s statewide voter registration system, Wis Vote, built on the .NET Core framework. Wis Vote serves as the state’s central database of voter and election information and is the primary tool for local election officials to administer elections. The designer will create intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards, align with usability and security requirements, and maintain the overall structure and integrity familiar to users.

Collaboration with developers and election specialists will translate functional needs into user‑friendly designs, conduct accessibility testing, and ensure a consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive technologies. Compliance with the agency’s time‑keeping system is required to ensure tasks qualify under federal funding guidelines or that work representing State initiatives is properly accounted for using State funds.
