Job Description & How to Apply Below
Overview

Our client, a financially disciplined, A+ rated specialty carrier with a long track record of underwriting profit, is looking to hire a Commercial Surety Underwriting Manager in the South Central Territory (Texas preferred). They keep things simple, back sound judgment, and reward people who protect the bottom line.

The Opportunity

Own the profitability of an established commercial surety book in Texas while working 100% remote. You will lead with financial analysis, set the tone on risk selection and pricing, and be the face of the company with key brokers across the region. If you like autonomy, clear authority, and being measured on results, this is built for you.

What You’ll Do
  • Hold P&L responsibility for an account-based commercial surety portfolio.
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts using rigorous financial statement analysis, indemnity evaluation, and collateral strategy.
  • Set and execute a focused marketing plan: prioritize target segments, schedule broker meetings, and represent the company at select industry events.
  • Maintain underwriting discipline within authority; escalate thoughtfully with crisp recommendations.
  • Serve as a resource to teammates nationwide on territory nuances and account strategy.
  • Lead special projects that improve underwriting efficiency, tools, or broker experience.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of account-based commercial surety underwriting experience with a track record of profitable growth.
  • Expert fluency in financials: cash flow, leverage, working capital, covenants, and trend analysis.
  • Strong broker relationships and the ability to influence outcomes while holding the line on terms.
  • Clear, concise communication and comfort working independently.
  • Strategic thinking with the judgment to balance risk, rate, collateral, and capacity.
Why This Role
  • High autonomy with meaningful authority and direct impact on the bottom line.
  • Remote first, with preference for candidates in Houston or Dallas; strong performers in neighboring states will be considered.
  • Career path flexibility: can hire at Manager or Director level depending on experience.
  • Culture that values underwriting craft, not just top-line growth.
