Associate Attorney

A well-established Madison law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its criminal defense practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is passionate about advocating for clients and wants meaningful, hands-on experience handling criminal, OWI, and traffic matters throughout Wisconsin.

Prior criminal defense experience is a plus but is not required. The firm is open to developing a motivated attorney with strong judgment, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to protecting clients’ rights.

• Represent clients in criminal, OWI, and traffic matters
• Appear in court and advocate for clients at hearings and other proceedings
• Conduct legal research and prepare motions, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents
• Review discovery, police reports, evidence, and case records
• Communicate with clients regarding their cases, options, and next steps
• Negotiate with prosecutors and other parties when appropriate
• Develop case strategies in collaboration with experienced attorneys
• Manage deadlines and maintain accurate, organized case files
• Travel to courts and client meetings throughout Wisconsin as needed
• Provide professional, responsive, and compassionate client service

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Active Wisconsin law license or eligibility to obtain one
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills
• Excellent interpersonal and client-communication abilities
• Ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and deadlines
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion
• Interest in criminal defense and protecting clients’ rights
• Prior courtroom, criminal law, OWI, or traffic law experience is preferred but not required

The position offers annual compensation ranging from $72,000 to $140,000

Madison, Wisconsin. Attorneys who live in the Madison area will work a hybrid schedule with regular in-person responsibilities. Attorneys located elsewhere in Wisconsin may be considered for a hybrid or remote arrangement based on location and case coverage needs.
