The Assistant Vice President, Athletics Development and Associate Athletics Director is responsible for leading the Advancement Athletics Development team responsible for raising gifts to support the mission, vision and priorities of Marquette University and will focus on the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of identified athletics donors while also managing a personal portfolio. The position will work on identified goals and objectives established in coordination with the university and the department of intercollegiate athletics.
In addition, the Assistant Vice President, Athletics Development & Associate Athletics Director will work closely with the Athletics Director, athletics department, head coaches, members of the University Advancement staff, the President’s office, and other appropriate campus contacts as needed.
- Manages a portfolio of approximately 40 prospects with capacity to make gifts of $100,000 and more; regularly identifies and contacts additional prospects through research and referrals.
- Meets individually with prospects and volunteers; responsible for making 15 to 20 face‑to‑face visits per month designed to move prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment to the university.
- Makes personal gift solicitations; management of the process includes maintaining a comprehensive understanding of university priorities, preparation of the solicitation materials, conducting strategy meetings, and preparing briefing materials for President/Vice President of Advancement/Athletics Director/others involved in solicitation.
- Plans and implements fundraising strategies and reviews progress based on athletics funding priorities with the Athletics Director.
- Works closely with head coaches and staff to achieve sport‑specific fundraising goals.
- Works closely with Athletics Director and Vice President of Advancement to develop and advance the vision and mission of the department of intercollegiate athletics.
- Develops and executes athletics fundraising business plan annually.
- Supervises/manages the Blue & Gold Fund team.
- Meets regularly with the Vice President to assess projects, review strategies, and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks.
- Maintains appropriate contact with prospects and records all contact in University Advancement prospect management system.
- Serves as a member of the University Advancement Leadership Team.
- Attends Department of Athletics Leadership Team meetings, serving as a member of the Department of Athletics management team.
- Participates in Advancement monthly staff meetings/prospect tracking meetings/committee meetings/etc.
- Attends university events and volunteer meetings, often during the evenings and weekends; represents the university to external constituents.
- Manages an annual budget, including hospitality spaces for Fiserv MBB games.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- At least 8 years of portfolio management and solicitation experience at the $1M+ level, along with fundraising leadership, staff management and strategic planning experience, proven analytical and entrepreneurial skills and demonstrated success in leading a complex organization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as superior interpersonal and organizational skills in working as a complex organization are essential.
- Highly developed ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information related to both alumni and donors as well as employees, with demonstrated integrity of decision‑making.
- Budget oversight experience.

- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Ideal candidate will have event management experience.
