Job Summary
The Operations Supervisor may be rotated to other work areas/functions within Customer Operations to address workload demands, gain experience, and develop a broader understanding of the organization. The role manages internal and external resources, supervises construction, design, planning, and scheduling for electric and gas transmission and distribution systems, and ensures the safe, efficient, and timely execution of projects while meeting customer expectations.
Job Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and conduct safety meetings to communicate safety requirements, updates, and required training.
- Manage work assignments to minimize overtime and costs while maintaining optimal customer service.
- Conduct daily tailgate sessions to communicate work assignments, review procedures, and discuss safety hazards and mitigation techniques.
- Motivate and engage employees to increase efficiency, productivity, availability, safety performance, and core expectations.
- Coach, counsel, and train employees for improved job performance; implement and administer the progressive disciplinary process when appropriate.
- Apply knowledge of labor contracts to decisions regarding scheduling, work assignments, and performance issues.
- Evaluate performance, coach, develop, and conduct annual performance reviews with individual employees.
- Ensure that all customer expectations are met through timely response and quality work.
- Supervise all customer‑requested work to ensure negotiated dates are met.
- Keep customers informed prior to and during planned outages.
- Resolve issues relating to customer concerns or questions.
- Coordinate activities for storm restoration/gas emergencies and communicate field issues to keep customers informed.
- Manage all trouble or emergency work within a defined area.
- Audit work from design through construction with Customer Service and contractor work forces; provide feedback for process improvement.
- Visit work sites to observe crews and inspect progress; ensure safety compliance and use of appropriate PPE, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure quality work aligns with construction standards and contract provisions.
- Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, codes, and laws for employee and contractor installations.
- Control area budget by managing costs of tools, materials, work hours, and vehicle expenses; approve contractor invoices as appropriate.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with employees, unions, customers, trade groups, and government agencies.
- Promote an inclusive workforce and team.
- Engage customers to proactively identify needs and problems.
- Respond to complaints about crew or contractor performance and resolve with customers.
- Participate in community activities as a company representative.
- Coordinate facilities management for repairs and maintenance.
- Represent the office or area on special projects, committees, and industry organizations as assigned.
- Use computer and associated hardware and applications efficiently and safely.
- High School Diploma, HSED, or GED.
- Five to ten years of experience in distribution/construction operations or supervisory experience of direct reports.
- Good working knowledge of union contracts and employee relationship building.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, contractors, and community groups.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
