The Director of Alliance Services provides strategic consulting, leadership, and support to YMCA associations throughout Nebraska and South Dakota. This position partners closely with CEOs, volunteer boards, and Alliance leadership to strengthen organizational effectiveness through strategic planning, governance development, advocacy, collaboration, and performance consulting. The Director also serves as the principal state-level advocate for the YMCA mission while facilitating statewide initiatives, peer learning opportunities, CEO engagement, and regional collaboration that advance the YMCA movement.
Note:
The Heartland Alliance of YMCAs is currently working under a Transitional Services Agreement with the Upper Midwest Alliance of YMCAs with a potential merger to be determined at a later date in 2026.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- CEO experience within the YMCA or nonprofit sector preferred.
- Five or more years of nonprofit executive leadership, organizational development, or consulting experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, board governance, organizational capacity building, and change management.
- Experience utilizing Performance Consulting Methodology (Partner, Assess, Implement, Measure).
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Organizational Leadership certification (or willingness to obtain within three years).
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 60% or more.
- Residency in Nebraska, South Dakota, or a bordering state.
The Director of Alliance Services will:
- Serve as the primary strategic consultant to assigned YMCA associations throughout Nebraska and South Dakota.
- Facilitate strategic planning, board development, and organizational assessments.
- Support YMCAs through strategic collaborations, shared services, management agreements, and merger exploration.
- Provide executive support including CEO searches, onboarding, and intervention strategies for organizations needing additional assistance.
- Lead statewide advocacy efforts and serve as a key representative of the YMCA movement.
- Plan and facilitate Advocacy Days, CEO meetings, regional gatherings, and peer learning opportunities.
- Build strong relationships among local YMCA leaders to foster collaboration and shared learning.
- Identify and coordinate statewide and regional initiatives that advance Alliance and YMCA objectives.
- Partner with Alliance staff to support marketing, communications, events, programming, and data collection.
- Prepare reports and updates for the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Perform additional duties that support the strategic goals of the Alliance.

Required Certifications- YMCA Organizational Leadership Certification (required within three years of hire).
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel extensively throughout the service region.
- Ability to meet all Alliance employment requirements, including applicable background screening.
- Additional YMCA-required certifications and compliance training as required by Alliance policy.
