- Shift times and overtime vary by position, department, and location
- 1st Shift: Monday – Thursday, four 10‑hour days, overtime worked at the beginning of the shift and on Fridays and occasionally Saturdays
The Sheet Metal Fabricator (Machine Operator I) checks job sheets, sets up machines, operates various sheet‑metal fabrication machines, reads blueprints, and maintains a clean, safe environment.
Essential Functions- Communicate verbally with coworkers for safety
- Operate sheet‑metal fabrication machines (press brakes, lasers, water jets, turrets, rollers, panel benders)
- Set up and prepare parts for cutting and forming operations
- Use a computer for machine setup
- Load/unload materials into machines and equipment
- Read and apply measurements to parts and equipment
- Interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, and job routings
- Move light and heavy parts by hand or cart
- Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks
- Assist coworkers with lifting parts
- Sweep and clean the shop area
- Work overtime and rotate jobs as needed
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment
- Grinding, buffing, drilling, bending materials (may be essential by location)
- Assist inventory of parts
- Operate a materials cart or forklift to transport parts
- Participate in machine rotation
- Previous experience with basic hand tools
- Metal fabrication experience
- Prior experience with Pierce as a team member or contractor
- At least one year of metal fabrication experience
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Recognize and react to abnormal operating conditions
- Use and wear personal protective equipment as required
- Hear safety alarms and colleague signals
- Count and measure accurately
- Read measurements and blueprints effectively
- Follow supervisor and coworker instructions
- Identify safety issues
- Maintain balance on slippery floors and portable steps
- Lift and manipulate parts up to 50 pounds
- Operate overhead hoists safely

- Use both hands for tool and machine operation and assist in heavy lifting
