Description

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Extrusion Press Operator ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Extrusion Press Operator will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

The general purpose of the Extrusion Press Operator (Extrusion

A) is to work as a part of the extrusion team, running the extrusion press safely and efficiently.

  • Operate the extrusion press in a safe productive manner, adjusting machine components to regulate speeds, pressures, and temperatures.
  • Measure and examine extruded products to locate defects and to check for conformance to specifications according to blueprints, adjusting controls as necessary to alter products
  • Determine setup procedures according to specifications and document any inconsistencies or changes.
  • Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance on the extrusion press (ex. Monitor oil levels, change and re- place worn tooling, basic cleaning).
  • Accurately use ERP system to document machine rates and material usage to facilitate an efficient and lean production environment.
  • Communicate within the organization using email or telephone to discuss changes in production schedule or machine issues.
  • Operate cranes and forklifts to move raw material and tooling when needed.
  • Be able to perform duties and responsibilities of Extrusion B and C as needed to cover vacations, absences, breaks, etc.

Requirements Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience and 3 years relevant manufacturing experience.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

Physical Demands refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational takes (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and use hands to handle, or touch objects or controls. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. The employee is regularly required to walk, and reach with hands and arms. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.

The employee must frequently lift up 10 to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Work

Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat (non-weather) and occasionally wet or humid conditions (non-weather).

The noise level in typically loud in this work environment. Hearing protection is required.

Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
