Production Manager
We are a leading manufacturer of premium, ready‑to‑eat link sausages and hot dogs. The company was founded in 2004 by four brothers, Chris, Joe, Mark, and Pete Salm. Since then, we have expanded to two production plants with more than 1,000 partners in Denmark, WI. In 2023, Johnsonville acquired Salm Partners to grow its ready‑to‑eat sausage business and the category overall.

Production Supervisor reports to the shift managers and acts as a supervisor for team(s) assigned. This leadership role directs and coordinates all production and sanitation activities, supervising the Team Leader, Operators, and Production Workers assigned to the area of responsibility. The Supervisor ensures shift compliance with all safety, food safety, quality, GMP, SQF, and USDA regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Manage all production activities and shift personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Conduct daily meetings at the start of each shift to disseminate expected performance results measured by agreed‑upon metrics and standards.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all Salm Partners and USDA sanitation and food safety requirements.
- Serve as an active member of the Safety Committee.
- Manage staff on a daily basis, including staffing, scheduling, absenteeism, approval of time cards and time‑off requests, contract partner needs, and other daily business needs of the department.
- Maintain production records and report shift results daily.
- Collaborate with support teams and other departments to optimize production and engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with established policies and applicable law, including training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining, and addressing and resolving problems.
- Seek methods and measures to improve the work environment for the production partners.
A high‑school diploma or GED is normally required; a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in business, supervisory management, or a related field is preferred.
ExperiencePrior supervisory or leadership experience and previous work experience in a USDA‑regulated food manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
SkillsCommunication Skills
Exemplary interpersonal communication skills, including strong verbal and written communication, reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals, writing routine reports and correspondence, delivering performance reviews, speaking before small groups, listening, and facilitating open communication and collaborative problem solving.
Computer SkillsBasic computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook. Previous experience with Sage financial software or related integrated ERP manufacturing software systems is strongly preferred.
Mathematical SkillsStrong math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculation of proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and the ability to create and interpret bar graphs and data charts.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and troubleshoot and problem‑solve. Prior experience applying Root Cause Problem‑Solving methods is strongly preferred.
Work EnvironmentOccasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and caustic chemicals. Temperature ranges vary from 35° F to 100° F. The environment is wet, slippery, and loud. Personal protective equipment is required at all times on the production floor.
Physical DemandsRegular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear; occasional fine hand manipulation; occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
