Position Overview:
The Harness Assembler is responsible for assembling wire harnesses and sub-assemblies based on provided documentation or harness boards. Responsibilities include various assembly tasks, such as testing, inventory management, winding leads, crimping wire terminals, soldering, and operating test equipment such as hi-pot testers. The position requires flexibility to rotate through different work cells within the department as needed. Strong organizational skills, self-discipline, a positive attitude, and a customer-first mentality are essential for success in this role.
Essential Functions:
- Perform sub-assembly work, including the assembly of wire harnesses and related components
- Open and close computer work orders to track and manage production
- Order raw materials required for assembly processes
- Operate air and electric assembly tools, hand tools, and testing equipment
- Read and understand bills of material (BOM) and assembly drawings to ensure correct assembly
- Operate cord-cutting machinery and wind cords and coils as needed
- Balance workloads and vacation schedules among team members to maintain production efficiency
- Rotate through different work cells based on production needs and priorities
- Work in a fast-paced, repetitive environment while meeting daily and weekly production goals
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts using ITW operating principles
- Be flexible in completing tasks outside of immediate responsibilities when needed
- Overtime may be required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of assembly or manufacturing experience
- Ability to read and interpret circuit and wiring diagrams
- Familiarity with MRD (Material Request Document) and material ordering procedures
- Ability to comprehend and follow bills of material, assembly prints, and product specifications
- Willingness to cross-train across various work cells
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 12 hours per day)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Basic computer skills required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Overtime availability as needed
