Painter

Location: Appleton, WI, US

Schedule: 3rd shift (Sunday – Friday 10:50pm – 6:05am)

Shift Incentive: $4.00/hour

Reports To: Facilities and Fabrication Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Position Summary: Responsible for performing all cleaning, oxidizing, priming, top coating, and finishing operations, ensuring high-quality standards, efficient workflow, and adherence to safety and ISO requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare parts for finishing using appropriate cleaning methods, including detergent and phosphate-etching processes; apply primers and a range of paint systems such as synthetic enamels, acrylics, urethanes, and epoxies; and utilize dykem and filler compounds as needed.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot finishing equipment, including spray guns and respiratory systems; manage and recycle coolant, oil, and paint thinners in accordance with procedures.
  • Ensure the efficient and continuous flow of parts through the finishing department into subsequent production stages.
  • Maintain quality standards that meet or exceed industry expectations and stay current with advancing finishing techniques and technologies.
  • Verify work accuracy and complete all required documentation to ensure compliance with ISO quality standards.
  • Utilize ERP systems to accurately enter labor, process production work orders, and maintain required records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by participating in rapid improvement events and operational transition activities.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and take accountability for personal and workplace safety.
  • Collaborate effectively with fabrication personnel and cross‑functional teams to ensure timely and efficient completion of work.

Education and Experience:

  • Vocational Diploma in auto body training, equivalent training, and/or a minimum of two years of painting experience.
  • Prior experience with industrial coating systems, equipment, and materials preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet production and shipping needs.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, and use hands and fingers.
  • Physical movement required to inspect, touch, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or twist.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Light to moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.
  • Navigate manufacturing floor environment, including uneven surfaces and stairs.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, and hard hat as needed.
  • Tolerate moderate levels of noise, vibration, odor, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines and protocols, including emergency procedures.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
