Laser Operator

This role involves setting up and operating a laser cutting machine in a metal fabrication environment to accurately cut parts according to blueprints and drawings. You will work alongside other metal fabrication equipment, ensuring high-quality production, safe machine operation, and efficient workflow throughout each shift.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate a laser cutting machine to cut metal parts according to blueprints, drawings, and job specifications.
  • Work alongside other metal fabrication machines and equipment to support overall production needs.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, fabrication drawings, and work instructions to ensure accurate part dimensions and quality.
  • Select, install, and adjust appropriate tooling for laser cutting operations.
  • Inspect parts during and after cutting to verify quality, dimensions, and tolerances, making adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor laser machine performance and promptly address issues such as misalignment, material feed problems, or quality deviations.
  • Handle and lift metal parts and materials, including pieces weighing at least 50 pounds, in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and setup checks on the laser machine to keep it in good working condition.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the fabrication shop.
  • Collaborate with team members on the production floor to coordinate workflow and meet production schedules.
  • Manage multiple tasks and jobs simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to laser operation, material handling, and fabrication processes.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience setting up and operating a laser cutting machine in a fabrication or metal shop environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with laser operation, laser cutters, and related machine operation.
  • Ability to handle and lift parts weighing a minimum of 50 pounds safely and consistently.
  • Capability to read fine print and distinguish colors as required for drawings, labels, and inspection.
  • Experience working in a metal fabrication or metal shop environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurate inspections of parts and components.
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple jobs or machine setups in a fast-paced environment.

  • Background in fabrication and metalworking processes.
  • Familiarity with tooling selection and setup for laser cutting operations.
  • Experience with inspection techniques and measuring tools used in fabrication shops.
  • Comfort working with older metal fabrication machines alongside modern laser equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with coworkers on the shop floor.

Work

Environment

This position is based in a clean, smaller metal fabrication and machine shop environment with approximately 40 people on shift, including office personnel. The atmosphere is friendly and familiar, with team members on a first-name basis. You will work with a laser cutting machine alongside other, older metal fabrication equipment. The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime shift.

The shop emphasizes safety and organization, with appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses and boots expected as part of the attire.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Chute, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.
