Cooke for Congress is seeking a Communications Director to serve as the campaign’s point of contact for press outreach, and to design and implement a communications strategy centered on earned media and social media. They will also manage incoming press events, pitch national and local media, and prepare media for a DCCC‑endorsed Red‑to‑Blue campaign at the center of the battle for control of the House.
Responsibilities- Direct the day‑to‑day communications operations for the campaign
- Develop and execute a strategic earned media plan that aligns with the campaign’s broader political and strategic objectives
- Develop and implement a coherent strategy for social media content creation and distribution
- Work with the campaign manager to schedule and prepare for media availabilities
- Coordinate with remote team members and national partners to drive media engagement, prepare materials, and align messaging
- Foster inclusive team culture
- Other department responsibilities as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically press releases, talking points, and engaging social media content
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- At least two cycles of political communications experience or comparable political or advocacy experience
- Ability to communicate with the press in a professional, politically sensitive manner
- Experience working in Wisconsin politics, knowledge of Wisconsin media, and ties to Wisconsin preferred
- Commitment to establishing a culture of respect and community
- Current driver’s license and access to a car
- Access to a computer and cell phone
- Proficiency in Mail Chimp, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Docs
- Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways
- Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross‑cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability
- A positive, team‑oriented attitude
- Time management skills are a must
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
