Position Title: Director of Discipleship
Reports To: Pastor
Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt
The Director of Discipleship leads the parish’s Discipleship Team, developing and implementing comprehensive adult faith formation and evangelization initiatives. This role serves three key populations: active parishioners, inactive Catholics, and the unchurched community.
The Director fosters a culture of intentional discipleship and spiritual growth, builds a welcoming and engaged parish community, and equips parishioners to evangelize through witness, word, and action. This position also plays a central role in strengthening communication within the parish and extending outreach beyond it.
Key Responsibilities:Adult Evangelization & Intentional Discipleship
- Form intentional disciples who conform their hearts and lives to the will of the Father
- Design and coordinate adult faith formation and inquiry programs
- Engage in relational ministry to help individuals develop a deeper personal relationship with God
- Collaborate with parish staff and ministry leaders to advance evangelization efforts
- Partner with local parishes, schools, and Catholic organizations to serve the broader community
- Work with parish leadership to articulate and implement a vision for discipleship and evangelization
- Develop strategies to engage active parishioners, inactive Catholics, and the unchurched
- Conduct data collection and analysis (e.g., surveys, census, demographic research) for pastoral planning
- Evaluate programs and identify opportunities for growth and improvement
- Maintain a comprehensive ministry calendar aligned with parish-wide scheduling
- Manage departmental budget and resource allocation
- Coordinate facility usage with parish staff and ministries
- Collaborate with bulletin editor and Director of Communication to ensure consistent messaging, quality social media content and consistent communications strategies for print and digital platforms
- Monitor website and social media to ensure effective and current discipleship content
- Promote events and programs through multiple media outlets
- Supervise and develop:
- Youth and Young Adult Discipleship Coordinator
- Child and Family Discipleship Coordinator
- Administrative Assistant for Discipleship
- Recruit, train, and empower volunteers for evangelization initiatives
- Support and/or coordinate ministries such as:
- OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults)
- Faith-sharing groups
- Parish missions
- Baptism preparation
- Outreach and welcome initiatives
- Serve as an active member of the Pastor’s Leadership Team
- Act as a resource to the Pastoral Council and Discipleship Commission
- Participate in diocesan, deanery, and regional initiatives as appropriate
- 5 years of ministry experience or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, catechesis, pastoral ministry, or related field (preferred)
- Practicing Catholic in good standing (required)
- Eligible for Advanced Religious Education Certification (Archdiocese of Milwaukee)
- Strong foundation in Scripture, Catholic theology, and spirituality
- Familiarity with Church documents on evangelization
- Understanding of program development and pastoral planning
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Effective organizational and project management skills
Strong presentation and facilitation skills - Ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Sound judgment and decision‑making skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Minimum of 40 hours per week
- Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends
- Active presence at major parish events
- Foster positive relationships within the parish and broader community
- Develop and maintain operational procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment
- Extended periods of computer and desk work
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
- Works with minimal supervision from the Pastor
- Expected to exercise initiative and make decisions aligned with parish mission and vision
- Responsible for stewardship of ministry budget
