Job Summary

RN Clinical Nurse provides patient‑centered, specialized, evidence‑based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. The role is accountable for delivering compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and Theda Care policy, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and fostering a culture of innovation and professional growth.

Accountabilities
  • Utilizes the nursing process, evidence‑based practice, and specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the patient and the interprofessional team.
  • Plans for the care needs of the patient in collaboration with the interprofessional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in the provision of care in the clinical specialty assigned and performs all functions of the professional clinical nurse (RN) that are age‑appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific.
  • Identifies ways to improve the patient’s experience of care, streamline care processes, and lower costs while promoting quality to improve patient, family, and team member satisfaction.
  • Contributes to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development to retain expert clinicians.
  • Provides consultation and maintains positive relationships with physicians and other interprofessional team members, collaborating to problem‑solve and improve patient care.
  • Demonstrates, anticipates, and proactively manages risk to prevent crises.
  • Performs skillfully in life‑threatening emergencies, matching demands and resources during crisis situations.
Qualifications
  • Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • BSN:
    Upon hire, any non‑BSN nurse with less than one (1) year of licensed RN experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing within five (5) years of hire.
  • Certifications for specific departments (required within specified time frames):
    • Medical / Surgical Departments – Critical Access Hospitals: ACLS within 6 months of hire.
    • Emergency Departments: ACLS within 6 months of hire; PALS within 6 months of hire.
    • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC):
      • RNs with less than 1 year of ED experience – complete within 18 months of hire.
      • RNs with more than 1 year of ED experience – complete within 12 months of hire.
      • Maintain every 4 years thereafter.
    • Pediatric Emergency Nurse Course (ENPC):
      • RNs with less than 1 year of Pediatric ED experience – complete within 18 months of hire.
      • RNs with more than 1 year of Pediatric ED experience – complete within 12 months of hire.
      • Maintain every 4 years thereafter.
    • Critical Care / Intermediate Care Departments – ACLS within 6 months of hire.
    • Neuro Department – ACLS within 6 months of hire.
    • Cardiac Department – ACLS within 6 months of hire.
    • Cardiovascular / Special Procedures / Cath Lab – ACLS within 3 months of hire.
    • OB Departments – Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 3 months of hire.
    • Labor and Delivery – minimum of 2 years’ experience.
    • Operating Rooms – ACLS within 6 months of hire; PALS within 6 months of hire.
  • All certifications must be maintained in accordance with state and institutional policies.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, pulling) and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens while performing job duties.
  • Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to perform patient care procedures.
Work Environment
  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasional high noise level.
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods.
  • Transportation, transferring, positioning of patients or equipment from one location to another.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
  • Possible contact with aggressive or combative patients.
Scheduling and Compensation
  • Location:

    Theda Care Regional Medical Center – Appleton, Wisconsin.
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 30.
  • Scheduled FTE: 0.75.
