Overview
The RN Clinical Nurse (Ambulatory) provides patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. The role contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and Theda Care policy.
Responsibilities- Utilize the nursing process, evidence‑based practice, and specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develop a plan of care in collaboration with the patient and interprofessional team.
- Plan for the patient’s care needs in collaboration with the interprofessional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the assigned specialty and perform all functions of the professional clinical nurse (RN) that are age‑appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific.
- Identify ways to improve the patient’s experience of care, streamline care processes, and lower costs while promoting quality to improve patient, family, and team member satisfaction.
- Contribute to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development to retain expert clinicians.
- Provide consultation and maintain positive relationships with physicians and other interprofessional team members, collaborating to problem‑solve and improve patient care.
- Demonstrate, anticipate, and proactively manage risk to prevent crises, performing skillfully in life‑threatening emergencies and matching demands and resources during crisis situations.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred;
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required. - Current Wisconsin RN Licensure.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of 50 pounds without assistance. Position is exposed to blood‑borne pathogens while performing job duties. Requires manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to perform patient care procedures.
Work EnvironmentFrequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments; occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Occasional high noise level. Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed.
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents. Occasional contact with aggressive or combative patients. Frequent phone communication with patients and staff; all inbound and outbound calls are recorded and monitored for quality assurance, training, and compliance purposes. Position requires compliance with department‑specific competencies.
Variable schedule Monday through Friday, between 7:00am and 6:00pm. 8‑9 hour shifts. No weekends. No holidays.
