Registered Nurse Supervisor

Overview

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

This position oversees and supervises nursing services for residents to assure the highest degree of quality resident care in a safe environment. The role assists with activities of daily living, offers emotional and social support, and attends to residents’ overall physical comfort and wellbeing. It provides communication between medical providers, family members, and the facility team for coordination of care.

• Provide leadership in attracting, retaining, and developing an engaged workforce in the delivery of superior services to residents and families.
• Direct the work of the assigned nursing staff; provide training, instructions, and ongoing training needs; assign tasks; review work; and prepare performance evaluations. Provide staff coaching and counseling.
• Audit nursing staff; ensure procedures are followed; provide follow-up and education as needed.
• Direct resident care and supervision of staff providing direct care, including passing medications, providing treatments, assessing residents, and collaborating with outside healthcare providers and the interdisciplinary team; advise/instruct Nurses, Aides, dietary workers, and Household Information Assistants regarding resident care.
• Review charting daily; surveil for potential infectious processes; ensure measures/precautions are taken to prevent spread of infections; log infections.
• Provide updates to family, residents, and/or guardians about changes in condition and instructions or education.
• Accompany physicians on rounds; assist with examinations and treatments; review patient care plans; transcribe new orders; inform residents and physicians regarding laboratory results and current conditions.
• Plan and assist with discharge instructions and follow-up appointments and therapy instructions.
• Assist with staffing various units; make needed adjustments; answer phone calls and direct as needed.
• Maintain contact with the pharmacy; maintain narcotics records.
• Supervise resident appointment and transportation scheduling to other facilities, clinics, hospitals, etc.
• Perform Staff Nurse duties as required.
• Monitor incident reports, investigations, safety programs, etc.
• Monitor infection control; initiate appropriate actions and submit reports as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Previous experience or training in Behavior Management or Rehabilitative Principles.
• Previous supervisory experience in a lead role.
