Inpatient Cardiac RN

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse provides patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. The RN is accountable for delivering compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and Theda Care policy, and is responsible for patient outcomes that meet the high quality standards of Theda Care.

12-hour straight night shift (5:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.). Every third weekend is required (Friday–Sunday). A holiday rotation is required.

The cardiovascular unit at Theda Care Appleton is a 24-bed telemetry monitored unit that cares for a broad spectrum of cardiovascular patients, including those recovering from cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, STEMI, end-stage heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and stroke.

• Utilize the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and specific competencies to assess patients and develop a collaborative plan of care.
• Provide the highest quality nursing care and clinical outcomes in the assigned specialty.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise and perform all RN responsibilities appropriate to age, developmental stage, and cultural sensitivity.
• Identify ways to improve patient experience, streamline care processes, and reduce costs while enhancing quality.
• Create a professional environment that encourages mentoring and development of expert clinicians.
• Provide consultation and maintain positive relationships with physicians and interprofessional team members to solve problems.
• Anticipate, manage risk, and proactively prevent crises.
• Perform skillfully in life-threatening emergencies, matching demands and resources during crisis situations.

• Current Wisconsin RN license.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
• BSN. Upon hire, a non-BSN nurse with < 1 year of RN experience must obtain a BSN within 5 years.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.

Ability to stand, stoop, walk, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Frequent exposure to sharp objects, instruments, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Occasional high noise levels, communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and aggressive patients.
